Agreed, comments need to have something to draw you in, same as the story that they commented on.

I do like a good "but." It definitely can keep the conversation going and lead to some great discussions and insight. I love when someone focuses on a small sentence or idea in a story that really stuck out to them. Especially when it's something added into the story that the writer thought was a fairly minor point or sentence.
