I actually ran a "secret test" testing long vs short form last month.
Earnings wise, long-form earned better. Primarily, because reading time matters which is often a forgotten metric in earnings. Inviting engagement is always a good thing to do regardless of the length of the article though.
So, no, I don't think you did anything wrong with your article. As long as it holds people's interest from the start and throughout, you're golden.
If it was me I'd maybe split it into 2, possibly 3 parts as 1,000 words seems to be around the sweet spot for length. You're thought of potentially doing separate articles for each day is a great idea. You could then link the other days at the end of each article so people are bouncing in the middle of reading.
At the end of the day, its your voice so do what works for you!
