I get that. I believe the presentation of those points matter more to readers, not so much the content itself. Largely, people just want to be entertained and also learn something while doing it.
In music, people record covers all the time and put their twist on it. Fans of those artists never really complain - they have a new song but at the same time have a familiar song they can sing along to instantly. There’s artists who make a living never recording original songs and only do covers of already popular music.
In fiction, stories are largely the same. They're just wrapped with different characters and settings. How it's told is what matters.
