The goal horn screeches and the thrill fills the crowd. The teams return to the center and the clash of their sticks meeting the ice builds the anticipation in the arena. The whistle blows and the game is back on!

Ah, the greatest Canadian pastime.

Even in summer, it’s easy to find people outside playing hockey.

Hockey is an inspiration probably to most Canadians. There are songs written about it and plenty of books written about it too. Hockey doesn’t have to just be a source of inspiration, lets see what we can take from the sport and how that can be implemented in our writing.

Determination

The Edmonton Oilers had a horrible start to the 2023–2024 season. They lost game after game, winning sporadically. Now in the new year, they’ve won 16 games in a row!

Just like the Oilers are determined to make it to the playoffs, writers must have a resoluteness in their writing.

It’s one thing to dream about being an author, it’s another thing to pursue that dream until it comes to fruition.
